Math/Sixth Grade

Mrs. Bosarge

Lott Middle School

Course Description

The sixth grade math program is based on the Alabama College and Career Ready Standards and Standards for Mathematical Practice. It incorporates abstract thought, reasoning, and inquiry through hands on activities and cooperative learning. In sixth Grade Math, students develop math skills in ratios and proportional relationships, the number system, expressions and equations, geometry, and statistics and probability using Connected Mathematics 3 (CMP 3) by Pearson.

Sixth Grade Standards

Ratios   and Proportional Relationships

Understand ratio concepts and use ratio reasoning to solve problems.

The Number System

Apply and extend previous understanding of multiplication and division to   divide fractions by fractions.

Compute fluently with multi-digit numbers and find common factors and multiples.

Apply and extend previous understanding of numbers to the system of rational numbers.

Expressions and   Equations

Apply and extend previous   understanding of arithmetic to   algebraic expressions.

Reason about and solve one-variable equations and inequalities.

Represent and analyze quantitative relationships between dependent and independent variables.

Solve real-world and mathematical problems involving area, surface area,   and volume.

Statistics and   Probability

            Develop understanding of statistical variability.

            Summarize and describe distributions.
