Revised Lott Middle School Uniform Dress Policy 2009-2010

Lott Middle School is continuing a school uniform program for the 2009-10 school year, as mandated by the State Legislature and adopted by the Board of School Commissioners of Mobile County. We encourage parents to take advantage of the summer months to purchase these uniforms so that all students will be ready when school starts. We appreciate your cooperation in improving the image and security of our school. Parents may purchase these uniforms at any business that they find convenient. We recommend Zoghby's in Mobile, Rowell's Sporting Goods in Citronelle or Academy Sports in Mobile.
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
- No caps or sunglasses (Doctors excuse only)
- No homemade cutting on uniforms will be allowed. (Slits on pants, Cut collars on jackets, Cut off logos, etc.)
- No logos will be permitted on any item of clothing
- No emblems, embroidery, or name brand threading will be permitted
Shirts: Crimson (not scarlet) polo style with two or three buttons (no exceptions); must be long enough to
stay tucked in.
Shirts with name brand labels will not be acceptable.
Any garment worn under the uniform should be solid white or crimson only.
Lott Middle School sponsored uniforms will be acceptable on identified days set by the school.
No tee shirts or flannel shirts will be worn as outer garments.
Pants: Material: Cotton or corduroy
Color: khaki/traditional/sand
Style: Classic cut, straight-leg slacks. All pants must have belt loops and be worn properly at
the natural waistline with the belt visible. Capri pants will be allowed.
Noncompliant: Cargo/carpenter pants, jeans, and bell-bottoms are not allowed, nor
are any pants with rivets. Pants with ragged, cut or rolled hems are unacceptable.
NO LOW RIDERS. .
Shorts: Khaki/traditional/sand in color; must fall no shorter than one inch above the knee and be worn at the
natural waist line. Must have belt loops and be worn with a belt.
Noncompliant: No cargo or carpenter shorts will be allowed. Skorts will not be allowed.
Skirts: Pleated or straight khaki. School plaid pleated, available only at Zoghby's (optional). The skirt
must fall no shorter than one inch above the knee and worn at the natural waistline. Protective wear must be worn under skirts. Possibly shorts will work under skirts. Jumpers will be allowed, with uniform shirts underneath.
Shoes: Tennis shoes are permitted. Dress shoes must be brown, black, or white.
No sandals, crocs, open-toe shoes, boots, or open-heel shoes. Laces must match the color of the shoes.
Belts: Black or brown leather belts with traditional belt buckle. Must be worn at the natural waistline and
shirts tucked in so that the belts are visible. No custom made or overly large buckles. Belts must be
worn properly in the loops; the end should not hang below the waist. No metal studs or rhinestones will
be permitted on belts.
Backpacks: Suggest rolling backpacks - Student's choice
Jewelry: No visible body piercing except in ears will be permitted.
Winter Wear: Crimson sweat shirts over a uniform shirt. Only school logos allowed. Turtlenecks may be
worn as an under garment only. Crimson color only.
Noncompliant: No Under Armor type garments.
Jackets: Crimson-colored, windbreaker-style jackets (may be purchased through the school). All other jackets
should be crimson in color and hoods must be removed upon entering the school.
P.E. Clothes: White shirt, red shorts, socks, and tennis shoes. P.E. shorts need to fall at least half way down the
outer thigh. Sport uniforms that are issued through the school will be acceptable.
All students are required to wear socks, shoes, and belts.
The office will be open all summer if you have any questions or wish to have the principal inspect
uniforms for correctness.
